94-01 BMW 3 Series (E36) Programming
NOTE: These instructions also work for BMW 3 series Compact/Hatchback (E36) 1994-2001
Program key or remote when batteries completely discharged, key batteries not replaced within 50 seconds. Key added or replaced, but DO NOT press key buttons during battery replacement.
- Unlock vehicle using key UNLOCK button
- Enter vehicle. Close driver’s door
- Switch ignition ON and OFF
- Programming mode activatedNOTE: Point key at infrared receiver located in rear mirror. Distance from receiver: Less than 15cm
- Proceed as follows:
- Press and hold UNLOCK button [2]
- Press key LOCK button [1] 3 times within 10 seconds keeping key UNLOCK button [2] depressed
- Release key UNLOCK button
- LED flashes slowly for 10 seconds
- System should lock and unlock vehicle to indicated programming has been successful
- Repeat above procedure if LED does not flash or central locking system does not work
- Repeat above procedure to program remaining key
- Note: A maximum of 4 keys can be programmed. Carry out programming procedure for each key within 30 seconds
If above does not work follow these instructions
NOTE: If vehicle was not unlocked using key UNLOCK button, programming procedure will bo blocked for 14 minutes
- Enter vehicle. Close driver’s door
- Switch ignition ON and OFF
- Programming mode activated
- Proceed as follows:
- Press and hold UNLOCK button
- Press key LOCK button 3 times within 10 seconds keeping key UNLOCK button depressed
- Release key UNLOCK button
- Some models: LED flashes slowly for 10 seconds
- System should lock and unlock vehicle to indicate programming has been successful
- Repeat above procedure if LED does not flash or central locking system does not work
- Repeat above procedure to program remaining keysNOTE: A maximum of 4 keys can be programmed. Carry out programming procedures for each key within 30 seconds.
